May Was Going to be Mamazing

the cumberbatch wink

So I pondered throughout the weeks of April. What did I ponder? you may well wonder.

I’d been thinking of nothing less than blogging every day for another whole month! Yeah, I noticed a bunch of y’all doing April A to Z or whatever the fuck it was and I thought that was a cool idea, though I haven’t read most of April’s posts yet (I’m still on February’s). But at T of V we’d rather make up our own shit usually, so I figured I’d steal the month of May.

I would have called it MakeMayMamazing and it would have been. Mamazing, that is. The abbreviated form is MMMMay with each May enunciated with a sensual groan. It would have been superbly sexy. Alas, it never stood a chance of actually happening.

oh god why

Why? No good reason, I just couldn’t muster up the will. For one thing, I’m moving this weekend—all the way to the other side of Vancouver. (Vancouver in the state of Washington that is, otherwise known as North North Portland.) This move will put me closer to my school, freeways and downtown. It’s a good move. But moving’s a bitch. Heavy furniture’s the least of my problems: I’ve got thousands of books, comics, games, DVDS and all kinds of boxed junk to haul. And then, I get to unpack it all again! So I just figured my first week’s daily posts wouldn’t be very good. This is going to be a busy week.

For a second thing…there is no second thing, really.

But I think we’ll do MakeMayMamazing next year, so I’m throwing it out there. Have I copyrighted the term? Just assume I have. Will I try another month of daily blogging this year before EveryDamnDayDecember comes back around? Maybe. Don’t know yet. We’ll always have December at least, that’s a tradition.

No regular Friday post this week, so sorry. Next Friday I’ll probably put up the one about my deep love for the NBA and the playoffs. I am just not in the mood to edit a long post right now. If you’re lucky, I might even mention that racist guy who owns a team you probably had never heard of before.

I didn’t even know L.A. had two basketball teams!

(Full disclosure: I’m a Lakers fan. L.A. is still a Lakers town, goddammit. Even if they look like they’re not going to be in the playoffs again for a generation…)

Hey, Amazing Spider-Man 2 comes out tonight in the U.S.A.! As of this writing, Thursday evening, midnight showings are a few hours away. No, I don’t do midnight shows any more. The buzz is mixed on this one. I’ll be posting my take on the movie as soon as I see it. Hopefully, there won’t be a goddamn massacre, but America…fuck yeah…

Also, if you’d like you could pop over to Tipsy Lit and vote for my story, The Power Trio. The reader poll goes up on Saturday. Just find my link and vote vote vote! I don’t know if you can vote three times but if you can, go for it!

tipsy lit button

Tipsy Lit is a blogship captained by Ericka Clay, the sexiest half-faced chick on WordPress. I’d love to get some of their readers ‘cos I am also often tipsy, so it seems like a good fit.

Well, there you go. Think of this post as my tribute to my favorite sitcom Seinfeld. If they can do a show about nothing, I can do a blog about nothing.

See y’all later….

Why “TreatmentofVisions”? Huh? WTF Does it Mean?

So I’ll try to tell you what TreatmentofVisions means, okay? I’ve heard it seems a strange kind of title. People go “Why don’t you name your blog after yourself?” “Call it something normal”, is another suggestion I’ve gotten. (What is normal is an entirely different discussion, so I normally disengage from those kind of judgements.)  Others insist “Your title should be something funny!” I guess since the tone of most of my posts here are mostly humorous. I think those people actually make a good point; but, on the other hand, funny blog titles can make it seem that the writer doesn’t take their content very seriously. Let me tell you: even when I’m being funny, I’m serious as all fuck about it. (Try on that pair of paradox-pants!) Finally, some folk merely express confusion over the title of this blog, or simply never address the issue at all.

First of all, I’d like to suggest to you, gentle reader, to not overthink it. Despite the kind of serious tone of my blog title, this site is not some kind of academic wormhole of analyses and diatribes. I just post shit here. I didn’t overthink the title when I decided on it. The fact is, this blog was started as a college assignment. (If you go back to my earlier posts, you can kind of tell.) Everything was posted as a response to a class exercise or as drafts of essays we were working on. So, in that sense, the Treatment of my Visions would entail both the teacher’s grade and the comments from my classmates. Also, I would comment on their blogs and be very kind and encouraging and shit. I would treat everyone’s work with respect and constructive criticism (if required). So there’s that explanation.

Another thing is that Treatment of Visions makes me think of a bigger project that I am working on. Keeps it in my mind even if I’m not able to work on it as much as I would like to right now. So the title relates to a larger title, so to speak. I can’t talk much about that project yet. Stay tuned.

Someone out there might think of Dangerous Visions, a famous anthology of SF stories edited by Harlan Ellison. One of the most lauded and controversial (at the time) collections ever printed, this fantastic volume was first published in 1967 and remains in print to this day. If someone were to point out that I might have had this book in my subconscious while choosing my blog title, I couldn’t argue. I’ve been undoubtedly influenced by this collection, and all of the authors represented in it are SF giants. So there’s that, too

From a creative standpoint, I think of the posts I put up here as practice for publication, either on the web or print. Not quite rough drafts, but stuff not quite ready for prime time. In other words, treatments. Just because a story is on here doesn’t mean that’s the end of its life or that I’m finished with it. Hopefully, this is only the beginning. As far as my outbursts and mania, well, this is probably the only place for those mind-excretions. (You’re welcome for that glittering image.) Also, any feedback I get from my gentle readers is treatment. I’m not getting many comments yet, but please comment. Even if its “EEEEEWWWWW!” Everything is helpful to me at this point.

In short, that’s why “treatmentofvisions”. I didn’t really intend for it to be a permanent title, but now I’m accustomed to its presence, you know. So I think I’ll let it stay. Let me know if you have a strong opinion one way or the other in the comments if you like. Give me the treatment, gentle readers, you princes and princesses of the internet! See you later.

We’re Making a Magazine!: WordPressin’ 2

So in a post last week, I wrote about my WordPress class. I told you that it’s the first of its kind that counts towards a degree and that makes all of us students pioneers and such. How cool is that? Click this to read or re-read that post. What I’ve yet to talk about is what we actually are doing in the class.

It’s been two weeks. Each student has put up a website for the class and posted a bunch of stuff. Each post has a particular purpose such as making headings, lists, linking images, making a picture gallery, a poll, etc. The posts aren’t terribly entertaining is what I’m saying, but they’re practical and useful. I’ve been blogging on WP for about four months, but I’ve kind of been glossing over all the cool things you can put in a blog and just posting without knowing all that I can do. So yeah, this course is great for me. And our instructor is an amazing lady named Lorelle Van Fossen, whose passion about blogging and WordPress is pretty damned contagious.

Here’s my class site if you’re interested. You’ll notice its language is clean. Not that I’m all that bad here, but I do slip in a fuck and the like when I feel it’s appropriate. On the classy blog, I’m doing my best to refrain from dirty talk.

I won’t detail all the assignments here. That’s just not that enthralling a read. Besides, I’m sure there are better sites for WordPress tips and the like. My main purpose here is to relate my feelings and observations on this class as a whole. The journey has been very helpful to me so far. But I felt like I would just breeze through, right? Miss Lorelle had other ideas….

Turns out the class is going to produce another blog as a group. Kind of a big project! This one will be for and associated with Clark College, but I believe that eventually it will be viewable by anyone on WordPress. Essentially it will be an online resource with articles about how to do virtually anything on WordPress. I’m thinking of it as an internet magazine. We’ll be covering everything you can do on WordPress and articles have been assigned to each one of us that relate to a particular aspect of the site. The Clark WP blog will be for future students of this program as well as for us now. Lorelle’s so excited about this project. She feels it can be huge. We’re no longer feeling the breeziness, but that’s a good thing!  At this point, everyone’s still working on their first articles so there’s nothing to really see yet.

Just a couple paragraphs ago, I stated there are probably better sites than mine for real WP tips and such. That is exactly what the class is going to create! We’re basically hoping to make this Clark College blog one of the best WordPress resources on the web, and we hope it will be used by everyone, not just students. Anyone who blogs on WordPress will benefit from checking out our site. So stay tuned. It will be packed with goodies very soon and I’ll let you know more.
